Agrigirl’s Blog of Alpine Flora

Our summer travels took us into amazing floral terrain of the Swiss Alps. Each step was a photo opportunity causing for a slow but richly rewarding hike. I have the names of some but would love for readers to add their knowledge about names and medicinal values.IMG_1629

Smashing Pumpkins

As much as I like some of this band’s great music, I am writing of the plague that occurs in my neighborhood during early November each year. With uncut pumpkins adorning our doorways and gates, we celebrate not only the onset of autumn but also the arrival of the Thanksgiving holiday.

Our pumpkins however, never make it that long.

The Ocean Knows

I want to tell you the ocean knows this, that life in its jewel boxes is endless as the sand,
impossible to count, pure, and among the blood-colored grapes time has made the petal hard and shiny,
made the jellyfish full of light and untied its knot,
letting its musical threads fall from a horn of plenty made of infinite mother-of-pearl.
— Pablo Neruda from Enigmas

2011 – A Photo Review

Happy New Year! It’s that time when we dust off our desks, focus on the future and decide where 2012 will take us. I find it helpful to consider the year that I’m closing out but not so much that it limits my invention of the year to come. What worked well? What didn’t? What will I commit to do in the year to come?  Here’s a glimpse into our 2011.

Gratitude to My Friends and Readers

Blooming Tuesday

I will be the gladdest thing
Under the sun!
I will touch a hundred flowers
And not pick one.
